Zegerid OTC Warnings and Precautions

Make sure your healthcare provider is aware of other medical conditions you have and all other medications you are taking before starting treatment with Zegerid OTC. Even though this medication is available without a prescription, there are several safety warnings and precautions to be aware of, such as the risk of drug interactions, the potential dangers of using this medication during pregnancy, and possible side effects.

What Should I Tell My Healthcare Provider?

You should talk with your healthcare provider prior to taking Zegerid OTC™ (omeprazole/sodium bicarbonate) if you have:
  • Had heartburn for more than three months
  • Heartburn with lightheadedness, dizziness, or sweating
  • Chest pain, shoulder pain, or any other heart attack symptoms
  • Frequent wheezing, especially with heartburn
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Abdominal pain (stomach pain)
  • Restrictions for a low-sodium diet
  • An electrolyte imbalance or acid-base imbalance
  • Low blood magnesium (hypomagnesemia)
  • Any allergies, including allergies to foods, dyes, or preservatives.


Also, let your healthcare provider know if you are:
  • Pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant
  • Breastfeeding.
Make sure to tell your healthcare provider about any other medications you are taking, including prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
