TriLyte Bowel Prep
As part of your bowel preparation ("prep") for a colonoscopy, your healthcare provider may recommend that you empty your bowels the night before by using a laxative such as TriLyte® (polyethylene glycol electrolyte solution). It is necessary for the bowels to be completely empty before the colonoscopy so that your healthcare provider can have a better image of your colon. Any stool inside the colon may hide important findings.
TriLyte comes as a powder that you will dissolve in water. The recommended dosage in adults is eight ounces (240 mL) every 10 minutes until watery bowel movements are clear and free from solid matter, or until four liters are consumed. Usually, at least three liters are needed for watery and clear stool. Each eight-ounce portion should be consumed as quickly as possible, instead of slowly over the 10-minute period.
