Serious Side Effects of Triamterene-HCTZ

Some side effects with triamterene-HCTZ, while occurring infrequently, are potentially serious and should be reported immediately to your healthcare provider. These include but are not limited to:
 
  • Dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting spells
     
  • Signs of dehydration or low electrolytes, such as:
     
    • Dry mouth
    • Thirst
    • Weakness
    • Lethargy
    • Drowsiness
    • Restlessness
    • Muscle pain or muscle cramps
    • Low blood pressure (hypotension)
    • Decreased urination
    • A rapid heart rate (tachycardia) or irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia)
    • Nausea or vomiting
 
  • Yellowing of the skin or the whites of the eyes (jaundice)
     
  • Worsening of gout
     
  • Kidney stones
     
  • High blood sugar (hyperglycemia) or diabetes
     
  • Signs of an allergic reaction, including:
     
    • Unexplained rash
    • Hives
    • Itching
    • Unexplained swelling
    • Wheezing
    • Difficulty breathing or swallowing.
