Who Should Not Take Triamterene-HCTZ?

You should not take triamterene-HCTZ if you:
 
  • Are allergic to triamterene-HCTZ, triamterene, hydrochlorothiazide, or any inactive component used to make triamterene-HCTZ. Your healthcare provider or pharmacist has a list of the inactive ingredients.
     
  • Are allergic to sulfonamides ("sulfa" drugs).
     
  • Have kidney disease, including acute or chronic kidney failure (renal failure).
     
  • Have high potassium levels (hyperkalemia) before starting triamterene-HCTZ.
     
  • Are not producing any urine (anuria).
