What Is Sunitinib Used For?

Can Children Use It?

Sunitinib is not approved for use in children, as it has not been adequately studied in this age group. Talk to your child's healthcare provider about the risks and benefits of using sunitinib in children.

Can Older Adults Use It?

Sunitinib can be used in older adults. In clinical trials, the medication was as safe and effective in older adults as it was in younger age groups. However, because of general changes that occur in the body with age, and the greater likelihood that older adults will be taking other medications or have other medical conditions, some older adults may have a higher risk for sunitinib side effects. Therefore, older adults may need more careful monitoring during treatment.

Is Sunitinib Used for Off-Label Reasons?

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend this product for treating something other than advanced renal cell carcinoma. This is called an "off-label" use. Sunitinib may be used off-label to treat other types of cancer, such as breast cancer.
