Senna Dosage

General Information on Dosing With Senna

Some considerations for people taking senna include:

  • Senna (as an approved non-prescription medication) comes in the form of syrup, liquid, tablets, and chewable tablets. It is taken by mouth, usually once or twice a day.

  • Because senna usually produces a laxative effect 8 to 10 hours after a dosage, it is often recommended to take it at bedtime.

  • If stool softening is also desired, combination products with both senna and docusate (a stool softener) are also available.

  • If you are unsure about anything related to your senna dose, please talk with your healthcare provider.
