Common Side Effects of Ranitidine

Ranitidine has been thoroughly studied in clinical trials, with many people being evaluated. In these studies, side effects occurring in the group of people taking the drug are documented and compared to the side effects that occur in a similar group of people not taking the medicine. This way, it is possible to see what side effects occur, how often they appear, and how they compare to the group not taking the medicine.
 
Based on these studies, the most common ranitidine side effects include:
 

Rare Ranitidine Side Effects

There are other ranitidine side effects that can occur. These side effects have occurred in very few patients taking ranitidine. In the case of these side effects, it is often difficult to tell whether they are actually caused by the ranitidine or something else.
 
Some of these rare but possible ranitidine side effects include, but are not limited to:
 
  • Dizziness or a spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Drowsiness or sleeping difficulty (insomnia)
  • Muscle pain or joint pain
  • Hair loss (see Zantac and Hair Loss)
  • Increased risk of pneumonia
  • Blurred vision.
