Drug Interactions With Ranitidine
Drug interactions with ranitidine may occur when the medication is taken with warfarin, atazanavir, or itraconazole. Other medications that may interact with ranitidine include triazolam and ketoconazole. Drug interactions with ranitidine can affect the absorption of medicines into the body, which may result in reduced effectiveness of the medications.
Ranitidine hydrochloride (Zantac®) can potentially interact with several drugs. Some of the drugs that may lead to ranitidine interactions include:
- Atazanavir (Reyataz®)
- Itraconazole (Sporanox®)
- Ketoconazole (Nizoral®)
- Triazolam (Halcion®)
- Warfarin (Coumadin®, Jantoven®).
Atazanavir (Reyataz)
Taking ranitidine with atazanavir can decrease the absorption of atazanavir into the body, perhaps making it less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to increase your dose of atazanavir or suggest a substitute for ranitidine.
Itraconazole (Sporanox)
Taking ranitidine with itraconazole can decrease the absorption of itraconazole into the body, perhaps making it less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to increase your dose of itraconazole or suggest an alternative to ranitidine.
Ketoconazole (Nizoral)
Taking ranitidine with ketoconazole can decrease the absorption of ketoconazole into the body, perhaps making it less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to increase your dose of ketoconazole or suggest a medication to take in place of ranitidine.
