How Soon Does NuLYTELY Begin to Work?

If you are taking NuLYTELY® (polyethylene glycol electrolyte solution) to cleanse your bowels before a colonoscopy, you may be wondering how soon the laxative will begin working. NuLYTELY typically causes the first bowel movement within about one hour after drinking your first dose. Loose bowel movements will continue for one to two hours after your last dose.
This laxative is typically started the afternoon or evening before the scheduled procedure. NuLYTELY comes as a powder, which is dissolved in lukewarm water before using. Make sure to drink each eight-ounce portion of NuLYTELY as quickly as possible, instead of sipping it slowly.
Do not eat solid food within two hours of starting NuLYTELY. For best results, avoid eating solid foods for three to four hours before starting this laxative. Ask your healthcare provider how long to fast before and after using this medication, and what types of food or liquids you can consume.
