Tips for Taking MoviPrep

If you are going to have a colonoscopy, a healthcare provider may prescribe MoviPrep® (polyethylene glycol electrolyte solution). This medication is a type of laxative that works to clean out the bowels before a colonoscopy by causing frequent, watery bowel movements.

There is only one standard dosage of this medication. However, MoviPrep is taken either the night before a colonoscopy or split up between the night before and the morning of the procedure. Your healthcare provider will tell you which dosing regimen you should follow.

Other helpful tips for taking MoviPrep include the following:

  • This medication comes as a powder, which should be dissolved in lukewarm water before using.
  • Do not add any additional ingredients, including flavorings or other liquids, to the MoviPrep solution.
  • MoviPrep can be refrigerated before drinking. It may taste better if chilled.
