MoviPrep Drug Interactions Explained

ACE Inhibitors
There have been rare reports of seizures associated with electrolyte (i.e., potassium and sodium) problems in people taking MoviPrep. ACE inhibitors may increase the risk for electrolyte problems with MoviPrep use. Your healthcare provider may suggest a blood test to measure your sodium and potassium levels before and after your colonoscopy if you take an ACE inhibitor.
 
ARBs
There have been rare reports of seizures associated with electrolyte (i.e., potassium and sodium) problems in people taking MoviPrep. ARBs may increase the risk for electrolyte problems with MoviPrep use. Your healthcare provider may suggest a blood test to measure your sodium and potassium levels before and after your colonoscopy if you take an ARB.
 
Diuretics
There have been rare reports of seizures associated with electrolyte (i.e., potassium and sodium) problems in people taking MoviPrep. Diuretics may increase the risk for electrolyte problems with MoviPrep use. Your healthcare provider may suggest a blood test to measure your sodium and potassium levels before and after your colonoscopy if you take a diuretic.
 
Oral Medications Taken Within One Hour of MoviPrep
MoviPrep is an osmotic laxative. It works by drawing large amounts of water into the colon, causing frequent, watery bowel movements that clean out the intestines. Any oral medication taken within one hour of MoviPrep could be flushed out of the gastrointestinal tract before being absorbed by the body.
 
Therefore, you should avoid taking any oral medications, vitamins, or supplements within one hour of starting MoviPrep, and while you are using this laxative. If you will miss a medication dose because of MoviPrep treatment, talk to your healthcare provider or pharmacist about when you should take the missed dose.
