How Long Does MoviPrep Take to Work?

If your healthcare provider prescribes MoviPrep® (polyethylene glycol electrolyte solution) to cleanse your bowels before a colonoscopy, you may be wondering how long it will take for the laxative to work. MoviPrep typically causes the first bowel movement within about one hour after drinking your first dose.

MoviPrep is taken either the night before a colonoscopy or split up between the night before and the morning of the procedure. Your healthcare provider will tell you which dosing regimen you should follow.

You should finish your evening meal at least one hour before starting MoviPrep. Normally, this evening meal should be limited to clear soup and/or plain yogurt. Avoid eating solid foods while using MoviPrep, until after your colonoscopy procedure.
