How Fast Does MoviPrep Work?

If you are taking MoviPrep® (polyethylene glycol electrolyte solution) to cleanse your bowels before a colonoscopy, you may be wondering how soon the laxative will begin working. MoviPrep typically causes the first bowel movement within about one hour after drinking your first dose.

This laxative can either be taken the night before a colonoscopy or split up between the night before and the morning of the procedure. Your healthcare provider will tell you which dosing regimen you should follow.

MoviPrep comes as a powder, which is dissolved in lukewarm water before using. It is important to finish your two-liter solution within 24 hours, along with one liter of clear fluids.

You should finish your evening meal at least one hour before starting MoviPrep. Normally, this evening meal should be limited to clear soup and/or plain yogurt. Avoid eating solid foods while using MoviPrep, until after your colonoscopy procedure.
