People who have occasional
constipation may benefit from
MiraLAX® (
polyethylene glycol 3350). It is available without a prescription (also known as over-the-counter, or OTC). It comes in the form of a powder that is dissolved in a beverage and swallowed once daily. You should not take this laxative for more than seven days unless your healthcare provider tells you to do so.
Overusing MiraLAX or using this laxative for a long period could result in dependence on a laxative to produce a bowel movement or could cause an imbalance of body salts (called electrolyte imbalance).
