People who are considering MiraLAX® (polyethylene glycol 3350) to treat occasional constipation may wonder how to take this laxative. MiraLAX comes in powder form, which is dissolved in a beverage and consumed once daily.
Specifically, there is only one standard recommended dose -- 17 grams of MiraLAX powder dissolved in four to eight ounces of liquid and swallowed once a day. You can mix the powder with any cold, hot, or room-temperature beverage, such as water, juice, coffee, or tea. After adding the powder to a beverage, stir well until the powder completely dissolves. It usually takes one to three days after starting this laxative to have a bowel movement.
MiraLAX can be taken any time of the day, but do not take more than one dose each day unless your healthcare provider tells you to do so. Also, do not take this laxative for more than seven days without your healthcare provider's approval and supervision.
