An Introduction to Rectiv Side Effects

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with Rectiv™ (nitroglycerin anal ointment). However, not everyone who uses the medication will experience problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.

 

 

Common Side Effects of Rectiv

Rectiv has been studied extensively in clinical trials. In these studies, the side effects that occurred in a group of people using the drug were documented and then compared to those that occurred in a similar group of people using a placebo (an ointment with no active ingredient). As a result, it was possible to see what side effects occurred, how often they appeared, and how they compared to the placebo.

 

With most nitroglycerin products (including Rectiv), the most notable side effect is headaches. These can be quite severe. In studies, up to 64 percent of people using Rectiv reported headaches, compared to 41 percent of people using the placebo. For people who get headaches with Rectiv, this side effect usually occurs with every dose, although this often gets better over time.

 

Dizziness was also common, occurring in 5 percent of people using Rectiv (and 0 percent of people using the placebo).
