Alosetron is prescribed to help in the treatment of severe diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) in women. This drug is only used after other treatments have been tried but have not adequately controlled IBS symptoms. Although most women tolerate this drug well, side effects can occur and may include constipation, abdominal (stomach) pain, and nausea.
What Is Alosetron?
- Frequent and severe abdominal (stomach) pain and discomfort
- Frequent urgency to have a bowel movement or "accidents" involving loose stools or diarrhea (fecal incontinence)
- The condition causes disability, or disrupts daily activities at work or home.
