About Digestive System
The digestive system begins at the mouth and ends at the anus. In between is a long, hollow tube (the esophagus and intestines) connecting various organs that aid in digestion (the stomach and pancreas, for example). The job of the digestive system is to break down the foods and liquids we ingest into very tiny parts so that the cells in the body can use them for energy.

Welcome to the Digestive System Health Channel by eMedTV. Our Digestive System Health Channel contains dozens of articles relating to the function and anatomy of the digestive system. It also has information on diseases that are specific to the digestive system, such as appendicitis, heartburn, diverticulitis, lactose intolerance, and many more. Finally, it includes information on common tests and procedures that are used to diagnose gastrointestinal conditions, such as colonoscopy, an upper GI series, sigmoidoscopy, biopsies, and certain types of surgeries.

Many people begin their eMedTV digestive system experience by clicking one of the featured links located on this page. You can also start with the health topic section on the left side to find a topic of interest. If you do not find the specific information that you are looking for in these two locations, use the Search box at the top of this page.
