Closed Caption - Liver Donation Surgery Risks -- Delayed Return of Intestinal Function

In about 1 out of 10 people who donate part of their liver, the intestines take a little longer than usual to start working again. It can take a few days or up to a couple weeks for you to get back to normal eating and bowel movements. If this does happen, your healthcare team will give you the appropriate treatments. This may include giving you additional medications or putting you on a special diet.
