After viewing this presentation and talking to your healthcare provider, you may decide not to donate part of your liver. This is perfectly okay. It is your decision.
If you choose not to continue as a possible liver donor, the recipient will still receive proper medical care from the liver transplant team. His or her name will stay on the list of people waiting for a liver to become available. This liver may end up coming from another friend or family member, or from a deceased donor.
There is no guarantee that someone else's liver will be a good match for the recipient, or that a liver will become available in time. However, the healthcare team will do everything possible to keep the recipient safe, healthy, and comfortable while waiting for a new liver.
