Mental Health Evaluation for Liver Donation
Everyone who is evaluated as a possible liver donor will have a mental health evaluation. This includes meeting with a transplant social worker to discuss how donation may affect your finances and living situation. You may also meet with a psychologist or psychiatrist to evaluate your emotional and mental health.
The purpose of these evaluations is to make sure that:
- You are able to give an informed consent without outside pressure or influence
- You want to be a donor for the right reasons
- You and your family are prepared for the emotional, financial, and physical stresses that are related to this type of surgery and the recovery process.
