After talking to your healthcare provider and discussing it with friends and/or family, you may decide not to donate part of your liver.
This is perfectly okay. It is your decision.
If you choose not to continue as a possible liver donor, the liver transplant recipient will still receive proper medical care from the transplant team. His or her name will stay on the list of people waiting for a liver to become available.
Liver donation alternatives are available. This liver may end up coming from another friend or family member or from a deceased donor.
There is no guarantee that someone else's liver will be a good match for the recipient or that a liver will become available in time. However, the healthcare team will do everything possible to keep the recipient safe, healthy, and comfortable while exploring liver donation alternatives.
