Information on Long-Term Liver Donation Surgery Recovery
After the first few weeks of recovery, you should be able to resume many of your activities with little or no pain. Although nearly everyone experiences pain after this surgery, after a few weeks, most people don't need narcotic medications. At this point, over-the-counter medicines are usually all that's needed.
Most people are able to return to work in about 6 to 10 weeks. It's also recommended that you only perform light duty for the first few weeks back at work. If your work requires you to do intense activity like heavy lifting, you may need to wait a few more weeks.
For very intense activities, like contact sports or heavy exercise, most people should wait up to 6 months. Everyone's situation is different, however, so you may need more or less time to get through the first part of your recovery.
These are only general guidelines. If you have complications after your surgery, like an infection or a hernia, it may take longer for you to recover.
