Drug Interactions With Linaclotide

No studies have been done to determine if linaclotide causes adverse interactions with other drugs. Because little to none of this drug is absorbed into the bloodstream, it is not thought that it would cause problems with other products. However, there may be negative reactions identified in the future, so tell your healthcare provider about all medications and supplements you are taking.

An Overview of Linaclotide Interactions

Linaclotide (Linzess™) is a prescription medication approved to treat irritable bowel syndrome with constipation and chronic constipation when the cause of the constipation is unknown (chronic idiopathic constipation). At this time, no drug interactions with linaclotide have been identified.

There have been no studies on whether linaclotide reacts with other medications. With normal use, little to none of linaclotide is actually absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract into the bloodstream. Because linaclotide is not found in the bloodstream, it would not interact with other medications in the bloodstream.

In addition, linaclotide is not broken down by the liver. Therefore, it is unlikely to be affected by other drugs that would affect how the liver breaks down medications.

Final Thoughts on Drug Interactions With Linaclotide

This product is not expected to interact with other medications. However, this does not mean there are absolutely no linaclotide drug interactions. This medication has not been studied with other drugs, and there may be drug interactions that are discovered at a later date. However, at this time, linaclotide seems unlikely to react with other drugs.

Nonetheless, it is always a good idea to give your healthcare provider a complete list of all medications you are taking, including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbs and supplements.
