How Does GoLYTELY Work?

Available by prescription, GoLYTELY® (polyethylene glycol electrolyte solution) is a laxative used to prepare the bowels for certain gastrointestinal procedures, such as colonoscopies and barium enema x-rays.

How does GoLYTELY work? As an osmotic laxative, it draws water into the colon. The large amounts of water drawn into the colon soften the stool and cause watery bowel movements, eventually allowing the bowels to become completely empty.
