Available by prescription only, GoLYTELY® (polyethylene glycol electrolyte solution#) is a laxative used to help cleanse the bowels before certain gastrointestinal exams. For example, your healthcare provider may recommend using this product the afternoon or evening before a colonoscopy or a barium enema x-ray. The medication comes in powder form and is added to lukewarm water; typically, eight ounces of the mixed solution are taken every 10 minutes until bowel movements are watery and clear.
