GoLYTELY® (polyethylene glycol electrolyte solution) is a prescription laxative used to empty the bowels before certain procedures, such as a barium enema x-ray or a colonoscopy. The medication works by drawing large amounts of water into the colon.

This product comes in the form of a powder that is dissolved in lukewarm water to form a solution. Typically, eight ounces of the mixed solution are taken every 10 minutes until bowel movements are watery and clear (which usually requires at least three liters) or until four liters are consumed.
