Closed Caption - Leaving the Hospital After ERCP With Sphincterotomy

When you leave the hospital you will be given specific instructions for diet, driving, activity level, medication, follow-up appointments and any further restrictions necessary. Your healthcare provider will also let you know of any symptoms that require immediate medical attention.

You should be sure to have a friend or family member drive you home because the drugs that make you sleepy for your procedure do impair your reflexes and judgment. You will not be able to go to work, drive your car, or operate any heavy machinery for the remainder of that day.

You will usually have a follow-up appointment within one week. But, in the meantime, it is important to communicate with your doctor if something is not quite right. Remember your doctor is your best resource.
