Telbivudine Drug Information

By interfering with how the hepatitis B virus multiplies, telbivudine (Tyzeka®) can help prevent the spread of this virus within the body and also help limit damage to the liver. This medication comes in tablet form and is taken once a day. It is approved for use in people age 16 and older.
 
Studies have shown that telbivudine can be an effective medicine; however, not everyone can use this drug. Information on telbivudine should be reviewed with your healthcare provider before taking the product to help ensure a safe treatment. It is also important that your healthcare provider has a current list of all medications, vitamins, and supplements you are taking, as well as a complete medical history.
 
While many people tolerate this drug fairly well, side effects are possible and may include fatigue, headaches, and diarrhea. Fortunately, most reactions to this medication tend to be minor and treated easily.
