Rectiv Medication Information
RectivTM (nitroglycerin anal ointment) is a prescription ointment approved for the treatment of moderate-to-severe pain caused by chronic anal fissures (an anal fissure is a tear in the lining of the anus). The medicine comes in one strength and is typically applied twice a day for up to three weeks. It is the first (and currently only) nitroglycerin ointment approved for this use in the United States. Common side effects include headache and dizziness.
Prior to using Rectiv, inform your healthcare provider about any other medical conditions you have and any other medications you are taking, including nonprescription products. This drug is not right for everyone, and your healthcare provider will need this information to make sure that this is the right treatment for you.
