Prep for Colonoscopy
When preparing for a colonoscopy, your healthcare provider will give you detailed instructions on what you can expect in the days leading up to the procedure. Your complete medical history will be gathered, as will a detailed list of all medications you are taking.
To ensure your safety and the effectiveness of the colonoscopy, prepping will also include emptying the bowel beforehand. This may be accomplished through the use of laxatives and possibly a liquid-only diet for two to three days.
(Click Colonoscopy Preparation for more details on what to expect with this procedure, including what happens in the pre-procedure room and pieces of equipment you might see.)
