NuLYTELY Medication Information

NuLYTELY® (polyethylene glycol electrolyte solution) is available only by prescription and is used to help prepare the bowels for a colonoscopy procedure. As a type of laxative, NuLYTELY works by causing frequent, watery bowel movements to remove any solid matter from the colon.

Although many people do not have any problems while taking this medicine, NuLYTELY can cause side effects, such as nausea and abdominal (stomach) bloating. In many cases, these reactions are mild and typically last for only a short amount of time.

NuLYTELY comes as a powder, which should be dissolved in lukewarm water before use. Normally, eight ounces of the mixed solution are consumed every 10 minutes until bowel movements are watery and clear, or until four liters are consumed.
