MiraLAX Medication Information

MiraLAX® (polyethylene glycol 3350) is available without a prescription and is used to treat occasional constipation. As a type of laxative, this medication works by drawing water into the colon, which helps to soften the stool and cause more frequent bowel movements.

Although it is an over-the-counter (OTC) laxative, MiraLAX is not appropriate for everyone. Make sure to fully review the product information on this medication before taking MiraLAX. For example, you may not be able to use this product if you have kidney problems or a history of a bowel obstruction.

MiraLAX comes as a powder, which should be dissolved in a beverage (such as water, juice, or tea) before using. This mixture is usually taken once a day. This laxative typically causes a bowel movement in one to three days.
