Heartburn Information

Heartburn is a common condition that occurs when the acidic contents of the stomach go back up, or reflux, into the esophagus. Many people with heartburn experience pain or discomfort that starts in the middle of the chest. This sensation can move up through the throat. The pain can be frequent, constant, and/or severe.
 
Things that can make heartburn symptoms worse include:
 
  • Large meals
  • Lying down
  • Bending over.
 
You are more likely to experience heartburn if you:
 
  • Are overweight or obese
  • Use tobacco products
  • Eat certain foods
  • Take certain medications.
