HalfLytely and Bisacodyl Medication Information

HalfLytely® and Bisacodyl (polyethylene glycol electrolyte solution and bisacodyl) is available only by prescription and is used to help prepare the bowels for a colonoscopy. As a type of laxative, the drug works by causing frequent, watery bowel movements to remove any solid matter from the colon.

Although many people do not have any problems while taking this medicine, not everyone can use HalfLytely and Bisacodyl. Make sure your healthcare provider has up-to-date information on any medications you are taking and any other medical conditions you may have before using this laxative.

This medication comes with one bisacodyl tablet and a jug of HalfLytely powder (to be dissolved in water before use). Normally, the bisacodyl tablet is taken first, and the HalfLytely solution is started after the first bowel movement, or six hours later (whichever comes first).

(Click HalfLytely and Bisacodyl for more information on this medication. This article covers how the laxative works, lists side effects, and offers some details on what to expect while taking this medicine.)
