Colyte Prep

The night before your colonoscopy or other gastrointestinal procedure, you will need to empty your bowels completely so your healthcare provider can get a clear picture of your colon. colyte® (polyethylene glycol electrolyte solution) is a laxative commonly used as part of a person's "bowel prep."

This product comes in the form of a powder that is mixed with water and drunk every 10 minutes. Typically, it will take about an hour before you have your first bowel movement. Keep drinking eight ounces every 10 minutes until the stool is watery and clear, or until you have consumed four liters.

Fasting is another important part of preparing the bowels before your procedure. Ideally, you should fast for three to four hours before starting colyte. Ask your healthcare provider what types of food or liquids you can consume while you are using colyte and before your procedure.
