If you are scheduled to have a colonoscopy or barium enema x-ray, you may benefit from colyte® (polyethylene glycol electrolyte solution), a prescription laxative. This product is used to prepare the bowels by emptying them completely, typically the night before your exam. By flushing out the intestines, it allows your healthcare provider to have a better, more accurate image of your colon.
This laxative is usually taken the night before your procedure (your healthcare provider will tell you when to start taking it). Colyte is approved for adults only and is available in brand-name and generic form.
