Flexible sigmoidoscopy is a similar examination to colonoscopy. However, it only examines the last third of the colon and rectum, where the colonoscopy examines the entire colon. It can be used in patients having minor symptoms or as a screening for cancer. However, it also might need to be followed up with a colonoscopy.
