If you have a duodenal ulcer, Carafate® (sucralfate) may help relieve your symptoms and prevent them from recurring. It works by forming a protective layer over the ulcer. This prescription medication comes in the form of a tablet or oral suspension (liquid) and is taken two or four times daily. Although most people tolerate this medication well, it is not suitable for everyone; for example, you may not be able to take Carafate if you have certain allergies or kidney disease.
