Bumex Alternatives

Bumex alternatives may be considered if the medication is not completely controlling fluid retention or if it is causing bothersome side effects. Alternatives can include limiting your salt and fluid intake, becoming more active, or taking other diuretic medications. Medications that can serve as Bumex alternatives include chlorothiazide, furosemide, and spironolactone.

Bumex Alternatives: An Overview

Bumex® (bumetanide) is a prescription medicine used for treating fluid retention. For most people, the drug is effective in treating their condition, and most people tolerate it well. However, as with all medicines, side effects can occur, or the medicine may not completely control fluid retention. Fortunately, several Bumex alternatives are available.
 

Bumex Alternatives for Water Retention

There are other alternatives to Bumex when treating fluid retention (also known as edema), including:
 
  • Limiting your salt and fluid intake
  • Wearing support stockings to reduce fluid retention in the legs
  • Becoming more active (avoiding sitting or standing in the same position for too long)
  • Taking other diuretic medications, such as:
