Side Effects of Budesonide EC

Common Side Effects of Budesonide

Budesonide EC has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials. In these studies, the side effects that occur in a group of people taking the drug are documented and then compared to the side effects that occur in another group of people not taking the medicine. As a result, it is possible to see what side effects occur, how often they appear, and how they compare to the group not taking the medicine.

In these studies, the most common budesonide EC side effects included:

  • Headaches -- in up to 21 percent of people
  • Respiratory infections (such as the flu or pneumonia) -- up to 11 percent
  • Nausea -- up to 11 percent
  • Dizziness -- up to 7 percent
  • Indigestion or heartburn -- up to 6 percent.

There are other, less common budesonide EC side effects that can occur. These side effects occur in less than 5 percent of people taking budesonide EC. For these side effects, it is difficult to tell whether the side effect is caused by budesonide EC or something else.

Final Thoughts on Side Effects of Budesonide

It is possible that you may experience some or none of the budesonide EC side effects listed in this article. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to tell whether any particular side effect (such as nausea) is actually caused by budesonide EC or other factors. Therefore, make sure to let your healthcare provider know if you develop any side effects while taking budesonide EC, or if something "just does not seem right." While it may not be a side effect of budesonide EC, your healthcare provider will be able to diagnose and treat the problem.
