Barrett's disease is a condition in which the cells lining the esophagus change and become similar to the cells lining the intestine. It causes no symptoms, but it sometimes precedes the development of a rare but deadly esophageal cancer called adenocarcinoma. Barrett's disease is more commonly referred to as Barrett's esophagus.
